Even though interest in the Emerging Markets (EM) is currently high again – not least after the historic BRICS summit in Johannesburg and the G20 conference in India – equities from emerging countries are still far from their highs, at least in terms of their valuations. “The emerging markets have not been in a bull market since 2006,” Kamil Dimmich, portfolio manager at the British investment boutique Pacific Asset Management, soberly notes. Dimmich, rated AAA by Citywire, runs the USD 1.15 billion (as of 31 July 2023) Pacific North of South All Cap Equity Fund. He still sees a number of emerging markets on a good path due to their “many different dynamics” and low correlations with each other.
